Red-vented Bulbul

Pycnonotus cafer

Description:

Medium sized bird. Red vent (obviously). Small crest that is sometimes raised.Feathers give a scaly appearance.

Habitat:

My rooftop terrace where I put out over ripe bananas for birds and civet- cats. It also brings its chicks...the same way its parents introduced it.

Notes:

This bird sings sweetly and is extremely territorial; pugnaciously so. It chases away crows which are much larger in size and simply won't let the red-whiskered bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus) even peck at the food I put out...not even when there is enough to spare!

Great shot Sukanya. You even caught a little of the red on the venter. Thanks for sharing.
