Lobelia gibbosa var. gibbosa
Lobelia gibbosa, commonly known as "tall lobelia", is a small herbaceous plant in the family Campanulaceae, and an Australian native. The annual herb has an erect and slender habit. It typically grows to a height of 0.5 metres and blooms between November and March, producing blue flowers. The species is found on dunes and hills, on clay pans and among granite outcrops. (Wikipedia) It is sometimes known as “false orchid”, which is quite accurate because it's not actually an orchid! Lobelia gibbosa var. gibbosa has been documented as occurring in Girraween, but whether or not it is endemic to this area is unknown to me. PS: The name of this national park is Girraween, which means "place of flowers".
Spotted along the Peak Trail in Girraween National Park. Dry sclerophyll forest with sandy granite soils, substantial undergrowth and accumulated leaf litter, and foliage much greener and lush since the drought has broken. Well-shaded area along this section of track, and some areas were still damp and muddy from recent rain.
