Scarlet Darter

Crocohemis erythraea

Description:

Note the stigma pattern in pics 2, 4 & 5, a clear broad yellowish band between 2 thin dark bands.
Note the middle and hind legs in pictures 5 & 6 are an evenly coloured orange/brown.
Note the small orange patch on the inner part of the hind wing in pictures 3, 4, 5 & 6.
Note the abdomen shape in pictures 2, 4 & 5 is more or less the width of the thorax, tapering at the ends.
We will look at these same features on the Orange-winged Dropwing here: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/108... Width of, and lack of black markings on, abdomen separate this from the similar Red-veined Darter, Sympetrun fonscolombii.

Habitat:

Garden pond

Notes:

Also known as a Broad Scarlet.
