Amphion floridensis
Adult Nessus sphinx moths fly during the day and at dusk and nectar at flowers and are easily distinguished by two bright yellow bands on their tufted abdomen.
Eastern Canada - Eastern U.S., occasionally in Mexico. April - July. Forests, streamsides, suburbs. Host Plants: Grape (Vitis), ampelopsis (Ampelopsis), and cayenne pepper (Capsicum).
Through my own observations, this species seems to show a preference to pink & purple flowers. Spotted nectaring on Cleome.
