American Snout

Description:

The underside of the hindwing and forewing tip are speckled brown. Wings show orange above. Forewing with a squared off hook at the tip. Body and head are brownwith elongate labial palps extebnding forward from the head, resembling a snout. Antenna long and heavily clubbed.

Habitat:

Urban garden

Notes:

This is the First American Snout I have recorded in my yard and only the second I have ever seen. It's been a great year for butterflies so far.
