banana stalk fly

Description:

An unidentified species of banana stalk fly. (Neriidae http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neriidae )

Habitat:

Spotted on a guava tree (Psidium sp.) in a large semi-urban yard and garden in close proximity to a disturbed patch of remnant forest.

Notes:

This guava tree is a prolific fruit producer, so much so that there are always some over-ripe fruits on the ground. This attracts many kinds of insects including this banana stalk fly.
