Common Buckeye Butterfly

Junonia coenia

Description:

From the chunks missing from one of its wings this butterfly must have had a close encounter. The bold pattern of eyespots and white bars on the upper wing surface is distinctive and make it easy to identify.

Habitat:

Its habitat is open areas with low vegetation and some bare ground.

Notes:

This Buckeye was feeding on the Tall Verbena.
