Variable Dancer Damselfly

Argia fumipennis

Description:

The variable dancer (Argia fumipennis) is a damselfly of the family Coenagrionidae. It is native to North America, where it is widespread throughout the east and present in the interior western United States. One of 30 Nearctic species in the genus. Size 29-35 mm.

Habitat:

Well-vegetated ponds and streams. This one was spotted at the Aiken Gopher Tortoise Heritage Preserve near Windsor (Aiken County), SC.

Formerly called Violet Dancer.
