Cup Moth Egg Mass

Doratifera sp.

Description:

An egg mass about 20 mm long with a height of about 3 mm. Pic 2 shows an exposed minute white egg. The eggs were covered with dense pale brown scales.

Habitat:

Spotted on the upper surface of a eucalyptus leaf in a nature reserve.

Notes:

My thanks to Steve Williams for the ID suggestion. It is possible tthat this is an egg mass of a mottled cup moth ( D.vulnerans). Both caterpillars and cocoons of the species were spotted on this very tree over the last two years.
Family: Limacodidae
