Two-brand crow

Euploea sylvester

Description:

The pupal skin becomes transparent during the day of emergence, revealing the black wings and white spots. The blue color which sometimes occurs in this species is exaggerated by the reflection of a blue water bottle in the background.

Habitat:

Centenary lakes park, Cairns. The caterpillar was found on a vine and collected for this series.

Notes:

This pupa of this two brand crow was brought home from Cairns (to Melbourne) in hope of capturing this transformation on camera. On the day of emergence, the pupa turns dark as seen in this series so I took it to work with camera by my side. However it emerged during the 30 min drive home and I missed the transition images.
