Lichen Moth

Cyana sp.

Description:

Small white moth with thin yellow transverse bands and black dots.

Habitat:

Suntaley khola is a remote village in West Bengal, India with the River Moorti flowing by it. There is only one narrow motorable road that ends by the river. The moths are drawn to the porch light of the resort and alight on the walls near the light. These can often be seen sitting there the next morning. This is a forested area with lots of tall trees and wild vegetation.

Notes:

Cyana moths show enormous variation on a simple theme: White base with designs in yellow, black and red.
