Gulf Fritillary Butterfly

Agraulis vanillae

Description:

This fritillary is beginning to look a bit battered. And has lost the deep black that makes it so striking a butterfly. New ones have been emerging from their chrysalis in the garden.

Habitat:

Wildlife habitat garden with many native plants.

Notes:

The Passiflora incarnata, native passionvine, has recovered and has new foliage for the next caterpillars. The passionvine is blooming and has set the fruit for fall.
