A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Alopochen aegyptiaca
Brownish large goose, standing about 70cm tall; easily recognized and unmistakable thanks to that dark-red patch around the eye.
Common and abundant resident, to the point of being considered pest by crop farmers. Here, seen in Kunene region of Namibia (northwest), around Sesfontein town, in arid open acacia tree-and-shrub landscape, very dry (but still magnificent and rich in wildlife) at the moment, following a three-year dry-spell. These two I saw around a water point, much greener than the rest of the area.
