Furrow Spider

Larinoides sp.

Description:

This particular spider's body was about 14 mm in size with a legspan of about 35 mm. The back of the light-colored abdomen had scalloped markings. The rest of the body was dark with striped legs.

Habitat:

These large spiders build large vertical webs in shrubs and trees, often near water. They may also be found around buildings.

Notes:

This may be Larinoides cornuta, but I didn't take a photo of the underside to find the appropriate markings for that ID. The back of the abdomen doesn't look quite right for cornuta, but that may very well be the species.
