Rufous Whistler (female)

Pachycephala rufiventris

Description:

This female Rufous Whistler is shades of brown and pale grey over white with striations on the chest and belly, wings and tail edged in white and a slight tinge of the rufous brown under the rump. Just as magnificent in song as the male though! Insect and small fruit/berry eater.

Habitat:

Found throughout much of Australia in forest and woodland environments, this one with the mate in woodland adjacent to river system.

Thank you Maria dB. Lucky to have the birds sit still - but the cold morning kept them low to the ground and huddling in small pockets of sunshine for long enough to focus the camera.
