Heavy Jumping Spider

Description:

A common hairy jumping spider feeding on a praying mantis more than twice it's length under a large Ixora leaf. Hyllus semicupreus is one of the largest and heaviest Salticidae spiders in Sabah.

Habitat:

In the row of Ixora flower bushes in Nirvana Memorial Park (cemetery), Tuaran, Sabah.

Notes:

This species is almost similar in appearance with the Indian Hyllus semicupreus but that species is not recorded here in Borneo. The possible species for this spider is H. lacertosus. >>>Map accuracy : 200m diameter.
