Ground Skink

Scincella lateralis

Description:

Very small skink, not as common around here as the broadhead. Attracted to the mulch and things living in it. This little guy looks like he dropped his tail at some point in the recent past.

Habitat:

Garden in mixed woods. Seemed to prefer the drier, sunnier hillside. A lot of sunny dirt for egg-laying, mulch, and plants to bring in insects attracts skinks of all varieties.
