Moth

Thyas sp.

Description:

Very large moth.

Habitat:

Suntaley Khola is a remote village in West Bengal, India with the River Moorti flowing by it. There is only one narrow motorable road that ends by the river. Lots of vegetation growing low. Many tall trees too. Very biodiverse. Spotted this moth in the resort we stayed at. The porch light draws in the moths which sit on the wall near the light. There are river-pebbles set in the wall. The moth is sitting near one of those.

Notes:

It sat there through the night...in the morning when we stepped out into the verandah we saw it had fallen on the floor...it was dead. The ants dragged it away and in a few minutes it was gone! Why did it die so suddenly??? The last photo shows it on the floor; dead the next morning.
