Mourning Cloak Caterpillar

Description:

About 5 cm in length, big black spikes and white hair on a black body. Red orange spots on segments running down the back.

Habitat:

Garden, near the ocean. On Cape Forchu, Nova Scotia. Canada.

Notes:

Found this caterpillar on my shorts. Quickly removed it and took some pictures while it sat on my phone case.
