Viadana é um gênero (o subgênero também é chamado Viadana) de esperanças-folha pertencentes à família Tettigoniidae, subfamília Phaneropterinae, tribo Phaneropterini e subtribo Viadanina. Não pude chegar à identificação do sujeito retratado a nivel de espécie; um amigo, Phillip Watzke Engelking​, sugeriu a possibilidade dessa espécie ser Viadana brasiliensis. Olhando o site [http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/], vi que a subespécie Viadana brasiliensis brasiliensis (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1878) é distribuída no estado de Santa Catarina.

Ele foi adiante, dizendo que poderia também ser outra espécie cuja distribuição é desconhecida, e que para uma ID precisa seja fornecida, seria necessário examinar a genitália e as asas do inseto. Sua aparência é um belo exemplo de um mecanismo de defesa de camuflagem, fazendo que possa se misturar na vegetação. Viadana são fitófagos, possivelmente polifitófagos.

Viadana is a genus (the subgenus is also called Viadana) of false leaf katydids in the order Orthoptera, suborder Ensifera, superfamily Tettigonioidea family Tettigoniidae, subfamily Phaneropterinae, tribe Phaneropterini and subtribe Viadanina. I couldn't reach the identification of the subject portrayed to species level; a friend, Phillip Watzke Engelking, suggested the possibility of the species (and subspecies) Viadana brasiliensis brasiliensis (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1878), which is the only member he could find on [orthoptera.speciesfile.org] distributed in Brazil, Santa Catarina, Benedito Novo.

He went further by saying there is also a possibility of this katydid being another species which has an unknown distribution, and that for a full ID to be given with precision, the genitalia and wings would have to be examined. Their appearance is a nice example of a camouflage defence mechanism, being able to easily blend in with vegetation. Viadana are phytophagous, possibly poliphytophagous.
