White-breasted Water Hen

Amaurornis phoenicurus

Description:

Slate coloured with white cheeks and belly. Touch of orangey-red at the base of upper beak. Elongated toes.

Habitat:

Kandy Lake. In the heart of the city. The traffic and turmoil did not seem to perturb the birds around Kandy Lake at all. It is so nice to see many different species of birds thriving, thanks to this waterbody.

Notes:

Korawakka in Sinhalese.
