About 5 millimeters in body length, colored as shown. Note red abdomen with interrupted bands of white scales.
The bee was seeking nectar at various composite flowers along a dirt road. Surrounding habitat is degraded shortgrass prairie with sunflower, yucca, prickly-pear cacti, and scattered elm trees. Also a riparian corridor close by, dominated by cottonwood.
