Mourning Dove

Description:

The mourning dove's name comes from its mournful cooing. A ground feeder. Fawn colored with gray patch on head. Iridescent pink, green around neck. Single black spot behind and below eyes. Black spots on wings and tail. Pointed wedge-shaped tail with white edges. Female similar to male--lacks iridescent pink and green neck feathers.

Habitat:

There are lots of mourning doves here at the Buccaneer State Park in Waveland, Mississippi.
