Red-tailed hawk

Buteo jamaicensis

Description:

I saw this red-tailed hawk in a tree and managed to get this picture of him taking flight and then disappearing. It is large bird with up to a 4-foot wingspan. He is brown with white breast. Rust red tail, which I could not get a good picture of since his tail was up in the air for takeoff. Has a dark patch on leading edge near shoulder.

Habitat:

This red-tailed hawk was spotted along a wooded roadside in the pine trees in Waveland, Mississippi. I was sorry that I only got this one shot.
