White-crown Stick Insect

Description:

Try to spot the insect in the first photo first! This stick insect has amazing mimicry which makes it resemble a stick almost perfectly. Most people and animals would easily walk pass it without noticing it. Winged female. Quite large, tip to tip about 200mm!

Habitat:

Found camouflaging on a mossy tree trunk in a lowland primary rainforest.

Notes:

Spotted during a recent macro nightwalk trip with fellow PN member - Albert Kang.

I wonder if these have any specific tree preferences, or if their camouflage and diet is adapted to a variety of trees.
