Laughing gull

Larus atricilla

Description:

This laughing gull is on one leg because he is resting. A three--year gull. I think this gull is two years old nonbreeding winter plumage because of pale head. Has black head in breeding plumage. Bill dark when nonbreeding. Light when breeding. Named laughing gull because of his laugh, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-haah-haah-haah.

Habitat:

There were lots of these laughing gulls on the Gulf of Mexico beach this afternoon.
