Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Regulus calendla

Description:

I was thrilled to spot this cute little Ruby-crowned Kinglet. I had never seen one before and, luckily, I spotted the red spot on top of his head. This is the male because of the red spot. Small green-to-gray bird. Two white wing bars. White eye ring and of course the ruby red crown. The female is same as male, except she does not have the red crown.

Habitat:

I spotted this ruby-crowned kinglet in the campground area of St Bernard State Park in Braithwaite, Louisiana. This little bird never stopped moving, going up and down the tree, sideways, hanging upside down and then going to another tree to do the same thing over again. Busy bird. It was a very windy cold 25 degrees out and he did not seem to mind. Difficult to get picture. Amazing to watch.
