Pheucticus melanocephalus
The male is easily identified with his black head and wings which have prominent white patches. Breast, nape, and rump are orange with the belly being more yellowish-orange. Thick bills.
Spotted in dense vegetation next to a creek along the Wenas road. Most of the creeks in this area have mixed woods including aspen, cottonwood, pine, and some fir nearby.
Ranges in the western half of United Staes and into central Mexico also into Southern British Columbia.
