Golden Whistler

Pachycephala pectoralis.

Description:

The Golden Whistler is a lot louder than you might expect for such a small bird. It has several different call patterns - I think I heard at least 3 or 4 variations while I was stalking this one. The most distinctive feature is the bright yellow breast (on males at least), topped by a black head with white throat. The back is a pale drab greeny brown colour.

Habitat:

Spotted deep in the woodland near my work and always stayed up in the higher branches (hence the poor photos - at the extreme stretch of my telephoto and in shade).

Notes:

I have often heard the call of this bird around my place of work, but have only just discovered the source of the sound.
