White-headed Babbler

Turdoides leucocephalus

Description:

Also known as Cretzschmar's babbler, bird is easily recognized by its white head. Light brown body, with darker brown wings. Yellow eyes. Noisy bird, always moves in a group.

Habitat:

Seen in Khartoum Sunt Forest Reserve, a riparian Acacia nilotica forest bordering Nile, very close to town center. The forested area is quite large, and includes some smaller lakes as well. Unfortunately, it is also a one of the favorite picnic areas in city, and as such extremely polluted and dirty, in spite of its status.

Notes:

I spent all year, while I lived in Khartoum, trying very hard to see this bird, since it can only be found in limited area between Sudan, Eritrea and some parts of Ethiopia. I only had two occasions : first time, it was fleeting moment on Tuti island, and I only got two pics. Then, when I almost abandoned all hopes, one week to ten days before we would leave forever, I saw this one in Sunt forest in Khartoum.
