Phaenicia sericata syn. Lucilia sericata
Blow-flies can be pollinators too! From Wikipedia: The common green bottle fly (biological name Phaenicia sericata or Lucilia sericata) is a blow-fly found in most areas of the world, and the most well-known of the numerous green bottle fly species. It is 10–14 mm long, slightly larger than a housefly, and has brilliant, metallic, blue-green or golden coloration with black markings. Adult blow-flies are occasional pollinators, being attracted to flowers with a strong odor resembling rotting meat, such as the American pawpaw or Dead Horse Arum. The plant in the pictures, however, is still unidentified.
Spotted on a still unidentified weed's flower, in the backyard.
