American white pelican

pelecanus crythrorhynchos

Description:

The American white pelican is an all-white bird with black on its wings. Has a hugh wing span of 8 to 9 1/2 feet. His bill is orange-yellow and long. Does not plunge in the water like the brown pelican to get fish, swims in the water to gather up his fish. Often seen in groups.

Habitat:

These American white pelicans were spotted near a levy in Braithwaite, Louisiana. We were riding our bikes and happened to spot these pelicans through heavy black bars. There were two white pelicans with several cormorants. This was my first spotting of a white pelican.
