Merulius tremellosus

Merulius tremellosus

Description:

Saprobic, on pine stump. Slick to the touch. Hairy cap with deep grooved underside. Have not viewed spores yet.

Habitat:

Saprobic on pine logs and stump in Southeastern Alabama.

Notes:

This fungus has colonized approx. 10 different pine logs in my yard. I am glad to know that there is a fungus here that will naturally break down the stumps of the pine trees I need to have removed.
