Also known as false tinder fungus, hoof fungus, tinder conk, tinder polypore or ice man fungus.Fruit bodies are perennial and can live up to thirty years. The one shown here is some 15 cm across and 10 to 12 thick. The yearly growth always occurs on the bottom of the fungus, meaning that the lowest layer is the youngest. Mycellium is inside the tree and causes the white rot.
