Steel Blue, Blue-Bottle Blowfly

Chrysomya saffranea

Description:

Large Green and blue metallic fly with elements of copper in its abdomen colouring. White behind the eye. Dull orange face with separation of the eyes. (this is the female, the male has eyes that meet at the top and the eye is more red) Black legs. Dark bands on the abdomen plate edges

Habitat:

Casuarina branches during a storm, close the latrine at a camp site

Notes:

Many flies seek the leafless branches and twigs which have been stripped of leaves and are reasonably stiff to hold on to during wind storms. That way they are not slapped by flying leaves and have a stable support
