Amphiagrion abbreviatum
Red abdomen, black thorax, and generally stocky appearance make this damselfly pretty easy to identify. Females are much more drab in coloration.
Flitting among weeds along an arroyo (dry riverbed) with a female nearby. Overall habitat is dry, open fields with scattered willow, cottonwood, and elm trees along the riparian corridor.
An unmistakable species.
