Western Red Damsel (male)

Amphiagrion abbreviatum

Description:

Red abdomen, black thorax, and generally stocky appearance make this damselfly pretty easy to identify. Females are much more drab in coloration.

Habitat:

Flitting among weeds along an arroyo (dry riverbed) with a female nearby. Overall habitat is dry, open fields with scattered willow, cottonwood, and elm trees along the riparian corridor.

Notes:

An unmistakable species.
