Spot-winged Glider

Pantala hymenaea

Description:

Good-sized dragonfly with broad hind wings. Note brown spot on inner margin of hind wing.

Habitat:

Roosting in a tree in the heat of midday along a dry arroyo. Mostly dry, open fields in the area with cottonwood, willow, and elm trees.

Notes:

Colorado Springs is at the very western edge of the range of this species in the Rocky Mountain region. May be expanding its range with global climate change?
