Ledrini leafhopper - nymph

Ledromorpha planirostris

Description:

A flat white hopper nymph about 15 mm long. The head had a flattened flared transparent rostrum, hence the specific name. Pale eyes seen on either side of head in notches along the posterior edge of the rostrum. Abdominal segments had pale brown markings.

Habitat:

Spotted on rough bark eucalyptus tree

Notes:

A nymph of the world's largest leafhopper, this is stated to merge well with the bark and therefore usually goes undetected. This nymph however stood out against the rough dark bark of the gum tree. Adults are brown in colour. These are from Family: Cicadellidae, Subfamily Ledrinae and tribe Ledrini
