European Toad

Bufo bufo

Description:

Large and stout toad, some 12cm in length, with wide mouth and copper coloured eyes.

Habitat:

A deep and old oak forest, on the coast of Atlantic.

Notes:

For a little story - we found this toad one evening on our balcony, in a rented bungalow deep in an oak forest. And my son decided to adopt him and named 'him' Bernard... we let it in peace and tried not to disturb 'him' during our stay, ad would see 'him' from time to time... By the end of our stay, we discussed with the owner about Bernard; and owner knew about 'him' - it appeared Bernard wa a regular around the cabin, and was actually named 'Arthur'... I actually liked that many people liked and respected this toad, and the story could end here - except that... I did not want to spoil the fun there, but by the size of it, I believe that 'Arthur-Bernard' was female.
