Orb-weaver Spider

Araneatus sp.

Description:

Some 2 to 3 cm across (including legs), black or dark brown spider, presenting large light-grey cross on the back. I'm thinking of Crossed Orb-weaver spider or Araneus diadematus; but am unable to confirm these appearances. The net is between the branches, rather high above the ground (2 to 3 meters).

Habitat:

Mediterranean garrigue.
