Painted Lady

Vanessa cardui

Description:

This very cooperative Painted Lady showed her characteristic four eyespots on the hind wing underside, at least 2 with blue centers. I love the pinkish orange on the underside of the forewing. Spot on the forewing margin is white.

Habitat:

Found on roadside thistles in the subalpine on Blackwall Peak, Manning Park, BC. North Cascade mountains, 3 hours east of Vancouver, BC.

Notes:

Old name of Cynthia of the Thistle seems to apply well here!
