Was swimming alongside a pair of common mergansers.
I was leaning towards red-breasted too, as it was swimming alongside a male and a female common merganser and did not look at all like the female common. Thanks guys!
Trust Liam, Plus the spiky feathers on the Common is easier to notice on female. The red breasted is shorter feathers
