Neurothemis ramburii papuensis
Brilliant red dragonfly. Occurs from mainland Asia to New Guinea where it is widespread and often abundant at standing, unshaded waters (see habitat of this spotting). Neurothemis ramburii papuensis is the subspecies recorded for Papua.
Spotted in a non-aquatic environment of a large semi-urban yard & garden next to a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest.

I still have to compare images of them. I have 3 red dragonfly species that (occasionally) grace my yard/garden with a visit :-)
I can see the difference between ramburi and fluctuans :) Love their colours
Thanks Claire!
