fruit bat sign

Description:

Overnight feeding on ripe fruit and splatter typical of fruit bats.

Habitat:

Sign observed on papaya (Carica papaya) in a large semi-urban yard & garden adjacent to a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest.

Notes:

I was going to harvest this today but I was a day too late. Bats visit our place nightly. We can hear the wing beats and see the sign (feeding marks, splatter and excrement) in the morning. Lots of saplings of various tree species sprout in our yard from seeds dropped by bats. I have yet to get a decent photo.

I agree with Alice, I do that sometimes when my dogs get to my limes first.

I would try to remove the damaged part if possible and eat the rest!
