Crested Tern (juvenile)

Thalasseus bergii

Description:

This lone Tern has a yellow bill and black legs. The body appears to be juvenile plumage i.e. mottled black and white.

Habitat:

Check out this little video: https://youtu.be/tmbBeLPy7kE of this lovely bird preening along the edge of the water. It was hanging out with a bunch of Silver Gulls (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae) on the sand (pic 2).

Notes:

Not too sure why there was only one of these around but I figured if it's comfortable enough preening amongst the gulls then it must be alright. This link is how I identified it: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/image... Atlas of Living Australia: https://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:...
