Caliptera tiger bee fly

Exoprosopa caliptera

Description:

This is a large tiger bee fly with typical markings except with the addition of some silvery-white markings. This was a warm day and there were lots of butterflies puddling as well. To the right is yet another species of Tiger bee fly I'm still researching. Exoprosopa caliptera is a new species for PN and I added "Caliptera" to the front of the common name to differentiate.

Habitat:

Spotted in a moist ditch along the N. Wenas Road in eastern Washington. The fly was in an elks hoof print where it was finding moist soil.

Notes:

Ranges in western North America.
