Manorina melanocephala
A tiny little Noisy Miner chick, only days old, has fallen from the nest. Not even a fledgling, it's incapable of flight, and the nest was way-too-high for it to be returned. The biggest danger for this little guy is predation, most likely from snakes or lizards, or even other birds like magpies or butcherbirds. The adults, however, were keeping a watchful eye and feeding it constantly, as they were the chicks still in the nest. The little wings were being flapped, and it was starting to climb very low shrub branches. Fingers crossed all will be ok. PS: Monday 28 Sep. - found out today that this little fellow died on the weekend due to a massive thunderstorm yesterday. Torrential rain and hail, and he probably died from hypothermia. Such a pity. RIP little guy.
Spotted in a garden at the Metroplex on Gateway estate, Murarrie, Brisbane.
Here's a spotting from last year of the same species at the same location. These birds are 2 weeks old, but capable of flight, albeit short hops. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/105...

Yeah, it's always sad. If not for the storm I think he would have been OK. Next time it's off to the vets.
Poor little darlin. That's natures way.
Poor little guy. Beautiful too. I disliked finding fallen nestlings as a kid. The outcome was never good. Though now, I am fortunate to know a local wildlife rehabilitator that would take them.
I wish we had taken him to the vet. Would have been fine had we not had the storm, but to remove him from the area would make it difficult to return. Nature took its course.
Oh! I was so hoping it would survive...Sad but then he is immortal digitally I suppose.
RIP little guy...
He died on the weekend, Vinny. He was a cute little guy, and I think he just wanted me to feed him. His mum and dad were feeding him. We had a massive hail storm roll through Brisbane yesterday, and he didn't survive. Died from the cold I think. A week or more and he would have been ok.
Nice pics, the little fella looks like he loved the camera!
