Pseudemys texana
A fairly large turtle (25-30 cm) with a dark green carapace. These are relatively low profile turtles, showing no medial keel, an indication of age in these examples as they tend to lose the keel that is more prominent in younger specimens. The rearmost scutes are serrated.
This turtle was seen in a medium sized pond in a natural depression in a pine forest in Southeastern Texas.
I tried to pass by this not-very-accessible pond as often as possible, hoping to see some wildlife other than arthropods (no offense arthropod enthusiasts). I was happy to see this guy on more than one occasion.
