Archilochus alexandri
Small hummingbird with a black chin that is lined with a bright purple border at the base. It has a beautiful iridescent green back and a long black bill. This is a male (females do not have a black chin).
These were drinking from a feeder that I put out in spring and summer. Found in a variety of habitats from urban settings to mountainous forests and deserts.
Fun Facts: 1. This hummingbird was first spotted in Mexico by a French physician (Dr. Alexandre) 2. They are the only hummingbird with a black chin. 3.
