Fasciolated Melipotis

Melipotis fasciolaris

Description:

Dark brown/black with white diagonal bands in the middle of the wings and a gray area at the bottom of the wings. The colouring indicates that this specimen is a male (females are duller in colour).

Habitat:

Observed in a national park near the beach.

Notes:

This specimen was drinking spilled soda. Later, it was eaten by a yellow warbler (Dendroica petechia).
